Opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 1976, much of Coton Hill House was in the original 1970’s décor when Berwick were commissioned to refurbish the communal areas. The request was a refurbishment that both modernised the home while accommodating those with dementia.
Team Berwick set to, creating an environment using both science and style, in that order. Although it’s important to have a care home looking beautiful, our designers first apply science to make sure the environment is dementia friendly before the pretty components.
Working closely with the home management, the refurbishment was carried out around the residents. This eliminated the need to close the parts of the home off during the project and enabled the home to maintain its bed occupancy and therefore income.
The result is a care home with four similar but distinctly different communal areas which draws warm praise from staff, residents and families alike.
Carol Overs, whose mother was cared for at Coton Hill House said:
"Our mother has had excellent care and love from the staff at Coton Hill. Family and friends have always had a warm welcome and management communication has been very good. The recent refurbishment of many parts of the building are of a high quality. We thank all the staff there for everything they have done to make our mother feel safe, secure and loved."
